4th of July

Well the Boat Basin and the mooring field finally filled up. I thought it would never happen. It looks as though most of the boats this summer that are moored in the mooring field are sailboats. With the high price of fuel, I can understand why.

A full Boat Basin-

A classic in the mooring field-

Captain Angus Macvicar's boat-

The Shearwater-

I met up with Captain Blair on Hussey Shoal this afternoon-

Big yachts med-moored at Straight Wharf-

Senator Kerry and his wife out for an afternoon sail on the harbor-

I spotted this beautiful 33 Fortier under the Angler's Club today. If I were ever to get another boat, this would be it-

Flat Calm At The Waterfront

Nice evening to be down at the waterfront tonite. Calm and summerlike. I took several shots before the thick fog rolled in-

A very photogenic Paige posing for my camera on the rocks at Brant Point-

Baby Cormorants/Arabella Anchored In Channel

I ventured out to the cormorant rookery at the end of the east jetty this afternoon in my boat to see if the eggs had hatched. It looks as though they hatched a couple of weeks ago as the chicks were quite large-

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong but I took this picture today of the sailboat, Arabella. Is she not anchored directly in the middle of a navigable channel? (click to enlarge)

Helen H

During my final check of the waterfront tonite, I spotted the Helen H out of Hyannis tied up at the gas dock at the Boat Basin. This is the first time I have seen her in here. I spoke with the captain and he told me they are on a two day fluke trip with a layover here on Nantucket. They are leaving early tomorrow morning headed for the shoals. He said on the way over here today they stopped at Tuckernuck #1 to try for fluke but did not get any as there was no real drift happening. Here are a couple pictures I took of the party boat, Helen H-

Storm Clouds And Pedlar

An interesting formation of storm clouds traveled from west to east over the harbor today-

Here are a couple of shots of the little wooden dragger, Pedlar, coming in after a day of conching in the Sound. I've always liked her lines.

Slowly Filtering In

After an extremely slow start this year, boats are finally starting to filter into the Boat Basin and the mooring field. I was out and about the waterfront in my boat today and grabbed a few pictures of arriving vessels.

Belle at her usual spot for the summer. She has received an extensive amount of work this year including a brand new keel-

The motor sailer, Little Vigilant, here for a visit-

The big sailboat, Arabella, moored in the mooring field-

The Argonaut was recently splashed. Captain Harvey Lynch will be running her this summer-
