Dangerous Flotsam

While on my final check of the waterfront today, I met up with Captain Tobey Leske down on the point. He alerted me to a huge section of bulkhead that had been on the north shore of the Island all winter had washed up on the beach at Hulbert Ave recently. Someone anchored the section of bulkhead to the beach. Tobey also called the Coast Guard Station at Brant Point and let them know. This is an extreme hazard to navigation. Hopefully it will be cut up and disposed of immediately. If left to continue to float around the Island, it would certainly cause serious damage to a vessel and possible sinking and loss of life. Here are a couple of pictures I took of the dangerous flotsam this afternoon. Thanks, Tobey for the heads up!

Rough Crossing

An old Nantucket salt who was working on the Cliff called me today and said I had to come by and watch the SSA M/V Eagle as she was approaching Nantucket in the Sound. I drove over and had a look. When I got to the Cliff, she was halfway between Tuckernuck #1 and the fairway buoy. She was rolling violently and pushing a big bow wake. I'm surprised she was running on such a windy day as today.

Here's a shot of her approaching the lee of the jetties-
