Storm

I shot the above video during the height of the storm this afternoon. The big steel dragger is tied to the end of the Town Pier. She was getting tossed around like a cork. I'm thinking it was blowing at least 70 mph at that point.

Here are a few more pictures I took. Sorry there are not more but it was just too nasty out to take pictures today.

Commercial Scalloping. Day Two

It was another beautiful day out on the water today. Light winds and cool. The scallops were jumping into my boat. Everyone was all smiles catching their limit of scallops in record time. Here are a few shots I grabbed this morning-

Opening Day Of Commercial Scallop Season

Commercial bay scallop season started at 6:30 this morning. It was a nice morning out on the water. Calm wind, sunshine and warm. I took my brother Richard along with me. We got my 5 bushel limit in no time and we were back at the dock unloading at 8:30am.

Here are a few scenes from this morning-

Toscana's Barge and tug were here the other day. They were loading containers on the barge. Not sure what was in the containers. Captain Tim Reinemo is running the tug for Toscana. He told me that it takes 12 hours to go from here to New Beige towing a loaded barge.

The guys are splashing their scallop boats and getting ready for the start of the commercial scallop season which begins this thursday.

The wreck of the Sargent still at Monomoy and still posing a severe threat to navigation. This is going on 4 years now that it has been there. The Shearwater is in the background.

I spotted this nice 28 Parker in the Boat Basin this past weekend. A couple of local guys own her.

Mystery Boat

I discovered this old wooden boat on the hard in a remote location of the Island recently. I have never seen her before in or out of the water. She has a little pilot house in her stern and looks to be around 30-35 feet in length. She has extensive rot but I'm willing to bet that she is repairable. Does anyone know her history?

Tracker

An interesting old wooden boat came into the harbor late this afternoon. Her name is Tracker and she's from Vineyard Haven-

The beautiful fall weather is still with us. Here's a couple of shots I took one early morning this week down at Brant Point-

Fall Has Finally Arrived

After an endless Summer, Fall has finally arrived. The Waterfront is typically very quiet this time of the year bit if you poke around a little, you will find something going on.

The ever present dock dog. Does anyone know his name? He's usually riding in a golf cart on the docks with his owner-

10/12/2002

I have never seen a fall season as nice as the one we are experiencing now. Every day is warm and sunny. Feels like mid-July rather than mid-October.

These guys came over from the Cape last weekend and fished for stripers off of Quidnet and Sankaty. I'm thinking their boat is a Bruno and Stillman type boat. It was a little rough but the boat was taking the slop handed out to her quite well.

A big tug and barge came here early this week and tied up to Steamboat Wharf. For two days they were bringing the old standby generators from Bunker Road on trailers to the barge and lifting them with a crane onto the barge-

This big steel western-rigged sea scalloper was seen at the Town Pier recently. Her name is Foremost. Notice the captain's cutting house with the two chutes-
