Spring At The Waterfront

Spring has arrived at the waterfront. I have never seen a March as nice as this one. March is typically our worst month weather-wise here on Nantucket. We have enjoyed at least five days in a row of beautiful warm weather. Very very unusual. The waterfront is still quiet but there are signs of life. The flowers are blooming and people are starting to stir. The charter boat guys are thinking of splashing their boats soon in anticipation of their upcoming season. I noticed the Nordic Tug, Blue Yonder, was out cruising around today. Her owner, Pete, is taking a trip. He's going on the America's Great Route.

Commercial Scallop Season ends soon. There is chatter around the docks that it may be extended a week or so as there are still a lot of scallops out at the west end to be harvested.

Martie,
Thanks for the great shots. It is hard to get great photos of your own boat. What a great day on the water! We are about seven weeks from leaving on our 6500 mile journey trough Canada and Americas rivers and waterways. We can not wait! Saw your post about Claudia's photo class and would love to attend. I will be giving her a call.
Thanks again!
Pete

Great to see the update, Martie. Yes, what a string of beautiful days and so unusual for March. Hey Pete! I'd love to have you in my May 1 full-day photo class before you head off on the big trip!

Youngie Holdgate used to say "if you can catch them keep them but dont take seed and I better not see any live scallops at the shell pile".This was when he would extend the season 2 weeks. Some guys would get 15 boxes a day in Madaket

I just wanted to say thank you for this blog. I visited Nantucket on a business trip last summer and was able to spend one afternoon walking around town. I fell in love with it. Everything about Nantucket.. I visit this blog to get my fix of what Nantucket is like throughout the year. I hope to visit again soon, only not for business! Thanks again, keep up the great work.
