Autumn Skies At The Waterfront

Summer ended abruptly here on Nantucket. We are now experiencing a good old-fashioned fall. Windy, cold and cloudy most days. There have been some fine days mixed in for good measure. I venture out every evening to photograph the sunset and the evening skies afterwards. There have been some pretty spectacular sunsets as of late. Most folks leave right after sunset. It's wise to wait an hour or so after the sun has set to start photographing. Here are some scenes I grabbed at various locations around the waterfront the past two weeks-

Postscript: I recently added a new feature to my blog. Under the picture of the week on the home page, there is a search box. Type in anything you want to search for on the blog in that box and the results will come up.

Thanks, Maria. Most people are so busy with their daily life that they never get a chance to see what I see on a daily basis.

We was up the Head of the Harbor Sat. and saw a huge wide swath of that rust tide.It was running SW/NE.If my memory serves me there was an ornithologist with the Maria Mitchell assoc. last year that said he would get to the bottom of this problem.I believe there was an astronomer involved as well.Am I correct about that and what were the results of their research?

Bird watchers and star gazers have studied our Nantucket bay scallops to death. There is no answer as to why the fishery has ended. I think that Mother Nature has had enough and is fighting back. The scallops may come back and they may not. Nobody knows and nobody will ever know. The good old days of commercial bay scalloping on Nantucket are gone. Long gone.

That first shot is seriously gorgeous. The steeple outlined by the setting sun is just perfect, Martie.
