Old North Wharf Dock Update

The new Old North Wharf dock is nearing completion. The guys from AGM have been making a lot of progress the past few weeks. I'd hate to see a big storm wipe out the dock again.

I spotted this 41' Coast Guard utility boat at Old South Wharf recently. She's from Florida. I'm not sure why she is here.


Other than that, it's been pretty uneventful as of late around the waterfront. A lot of the guys are still getting their 5 bushel limits of scallops every day. It turned out to be a very good year for anyone willing to put the time in.

Really nice morning out there scalloping today. I grabbed a few shots on the way to the grounds.

A house on the waterfront being rebuilt. Notice only a very small portion of the original structure was saved-


Work on the rebuilding of the end of Old North Wharf is moving along nicely. The AGM guys have laid the frame for the walkway and are getting ready to deck it over-

Flat Calm Today

Nice morning out scalloping today. Flat calm. A rare day on the water this time of the year.

Old North Wharf Dock Progress

Work on the new dock at the end of Old North Wharf is going along well. I have followed the progression since day one of the rebuilding. Recently, the guys from AGM have moved their big barge and crane way down by Kevin Shore's old fish market. Today at low tide, they were setting huge concrete pads as the base for the pilings. Here are some scenes from today-

Blog reader, Rich Sullivan, sent me a picture to post. It's a shot of Eddie O'Brien on a mooring ball after the No Name Storm of 1991-


More old pictures. Matt Kniskern sent me pictures of his mother, Eugenie Stackpole heading in on the family's bay scallop boat. Notice they placed the scallops in burlap bags back then.



Matt also sent me pictures of a huge turtle a dragger brought into Nantucket sometime in the 1960's. His father, Frank Kniskern, took these pictures. I think Tobey Lesk is in one of the shots.

Snowy Waterfront

We received several inches of snow today. I went down to the docks to have a look-

Cold!

It was cold and snowy out there scalloping today. The temperature barely made it to 30 degrees. I grabbed a few shots of the guys working-
