Beautiful morning out on the water today for the start of the commercial scallop season. There are tons of scallops with a small raised annual growth ring to be had. We are not allowed to keep them this year. Here are a few scenes I took early this morning-

Were you and others able to get your limit?
I did not even make a full tow today. I tested with one dredge. 99.999% of the scallops this year are nubs. And there are tons and tons of them out there. If we were able to keep them as we have in the past, I would have gotten my limit by 8:30 or 9am. I don't know of anyone who got their limit today.
About a month ago, I went for a walk along Quaise beach all the way to the Polpis Harbor entrance. It was low tide. At the low water mark, for the entire length of this stretch of beach, I could see thousands of recently washed up adult scallop shells with a well defined, raised growth ring. Thousands of them! Something tells me that these are (were) your 2008-2009 adult scallops. Any thoughts?
Dan
did the divers do any better?
I only know one diver and he is getting between two and three bushels per day. He is passing up thousands and thousands of scallops with a raised annual growth ring which we are still not allowed to tae this year.
I thought I read 4 was OK for the first two days then up to 10 thereafter?
Totally onfused non scalloper.
Can you show some pictures showing what the difference between the scallops is?
Tom, it would be difficult to see the nub scallops if a picture was provided. Sorry.
