Notice the net drum in her stern. She can be converted over to dragging as well as scalloping-
She tows one 8' or 9' dredge. Note the cutting house on her port side-
And note the second steering station. It looks as though there is a control for the winch as well. This makes it easier to run the boat if you are alone. She may have been a lobster boat in a former life.-

I had a chat with the captain. They were fishing down around the corner of the shipping lanes and came in here because it was gonna blow. The crew consists of the captain and two crew members. When I asked him what shifts they work, I was told that they just keep fishing until they have the 400 pounds. I asked who does the cooking and was told that when you have a free minute, you run in, shove something in your mouth and go back out. They cut on the tow so there really isn't any down time. They are also required to be equipped with VMS or Vessel Monitoring System- Big Brother is all over them.

Thanks for that, Dan. I think all commercial fishing boats are required to have VMS on their boats. It keeps them from fishing closed areas. It also prevents them from going over the line into Canadian waters where they are not allowed to fish.
Do you know who has to pay for the VMS?
Any any clue why the need to have an VMS that only the Coast Guard can see rather than an AIS that anybody can see...including the tugs/tows and ships that cross their fishing grounds?
I think you and I pay for the VMS. Is it not a system set up to keep track of each boats DAS?
