I noticed the above big sailboat anchored in the sound just NE of the fairway (NB) buoy early this morning. Does anyone know who she is? She looks familiar to me.
This interesting little dragger was steaming in late today. I have never seen her here before.

Her name is "Juliet" and she is British flagged. Beautiful boat. T
I think it's the old Mandalay now owned by Mr. Farkas who nearly bought the Boat Basin last year.
Saw both out there yesterday on my way out to Muskeget for a seal cruise. The dragger has been loading up on conch for a few days, now, along with the Valkery, both inside the 3 mile line. At least one of them has been tearing through all the conch pots. The Vineyard boats are still over here stealing our conch as well.

Do we have any local conchers? And, do any of our seafood markets sell conch? I'd like to try it, but I don't feel like wrestling a seagull for it.

BJG,
We have two local conchers. Matt Herr & Andy Roberts. I'll do a story for the blog about them soon. I do not know if any local seafood markets sell conch. When I was down in the Turks & Caicos Islands a few years back, I sampled conch. It didn't taste like plover but it was quite good.
Hey, I think that boat at the top might be "Timoneer." If that's her, the interior was designed by Barbara Halsted... a local interior designer who does houses and yachts.
BJG (again)
Sayles is buying conch. Conch is a generic term used loosely up here referring to the 2 species of Whelk caught in these waters; Knobby Whelk and Channeled Whelk.
True conch is found in southern waters.
Whelk makes a good chowder if you mince the heck out of the tough meat.

That is not Timoneer, nor is it a similar size boat, Avalon. Dunno what it is though...saw it out in the sound the other day.
