Boat Fire In Polpis Harbor

A green 17' Bristol Skiff caught fire this afternoon and was drifting around the mooring field in East Polpis Harbor. It managed to catch another boat on fire before it was extinguished by the Marine Department. It was then towed up onto the beach at the east parking lot at Polpis Harbor where it was still smoldering several hours later. Here are a few shots I grabbed later in the afternoon-

Wrecked Sailboat On East Jetty

There is a wrecked sailboat on the rocks at the east jetty. I will grab some close-ups later from my boat if she's still there.

At high tide today, TowBoatU.S. successfully towed the stricken old girl off the rocks and onto the beach at Brant Point between the railway and the Lighthouse. She suffered extensive damage to her hulls. They are thinking she is a total loss. The salvagers are making plans to tow her over to Grey Lady Marine, de-mast her and haul her out of the water.

Nice Morning/Lady Maryland 7/13/2009

I was out and about the waterfront early this morning and grabbed a few shots.






The Lady Maryland out of Baltimore was here over the weekend. She was tied up at the east face of Straight Wharf. I have never seen here in here before. I will do some research on her. In the meantime, does anyone know anything about her?

Minke

There's a new boat plying the waterfront. Her name is Minke. She's a 26' Crosby powered by an 85 horsepower Perkins diesel motor. An interesting feature of this boat is the fact that she has a bow thruster which the captain controls via a joystick. Captain Blair Perkins owns Minke. He is running her as a harbor tour boat operating out of Straight Wharf. Blair's son, Max, also runs the boat. Here are a couple shots of Minke with Max Perkins at the helm-



Blair also owns the Shearwater. She's a whale watch boat. Here are pictures of the Shearwater steaming down the fairway after a day offshore whale watching this past Sunday-
