Video of Scallopers Waiting To Unload Their Catch

Here is a video the Cape Cod Times shot on Thursday. It was when we were not allowed to land at the dock or unload our limit of scallops until The Marine Department gave the go ahead. We spent almost five hours floating around the Boat Basin waiting for the news that it was okay to land and unload our scallops. Hint: Watch the video in high quality.

Back To Commercial Scalloping

We were finally allowed to get back out on the water yesterday and resume fishing. The State voted to allow the fishermen to legally harvest the nub scallop. Now it's back to business as usual for the fishermen after being off the water for a week and a half.

As the sun was rising, there was a rainbow in the western sky. I have never seen the sun rising and a rainbow at the same time. Amazing-

A tug came in recently to tow one of AGM's barges back to the mainland from Old North Wharf-


I spotted the Milestone recently at the Town Pier. She's an Ottison built boat. I have not seen her for a long long time. I remember Lowell Whitford used to fish her. Nice to see her back-

This old cottage on Commercial Wharf has recently been raised high in the air. Amazing job by the contractor!

A few days before the start of the commercial scallop season started, I took Tim Mooney out on my boat to have a look around. We found tons of nub scallops out there in the harbor-





I spotted these two KC-10 aircraft high above the harbor locked together in the middle of refueling-

Great Harbor Yacht Club & Old North Wharf Construction

Work is progressing nicely on the new Great Harbor Yacht Club and the rebuilding of the end of Old North Wharf. Here are some recent pictures of both projects starting with the Great Harbor Yacht Club-

Draggers Taking Out

There were several western rigged draggers at the end of Straight Wharf yesterday. Three were taking out. A local fish buyer was unloading their catch of cod, yellowtail and lobsters.

Nub War Update 4

Here's the latest on the nub war. There was an emergency meeting last night with the scallopers, SHAB, the selectmen, the Marine Department and the State Biologist. A proposal will be brought to the Division Of Marine Fisheries tomorrow. The proposal will ask that the scallopers could take a scallop no less than two and a half inches from the hinge to the top of the shell. The scallop must have a raised annual growth ring as well. Any scallops that do not meet those criterias must be returned. This is good news for the fishermen. We will learn our fate sometime tomorrow.

First Day Of Commercial Scalloping

Beautiful morning out on the water today for the start of the commercial scallop season. There are tons of scallops with a small raised annual growth ring to be had. We are not allowed to keep them this year. Here are a few scenes I took early this morning-

The Eve Of Commercial Scalloping

Well, everyone is just about ready for the big day of the start of commercial scalloping tomorrow. The nub issue was the talk of the waterfront today. We will learn our fate on that issue after the SHAB meeting on Tuesday, November fourth. I was down at the docks today and grabbed a few pictures.
