The harbor started to freeze last night. Just a little slushy ice around the edges. It won't last long as the temp is supposed to rise into the fifties later this week.
I grabbed some shots while I was lurking around the Monomoy area of the waterfront this afternoon.

Waterfront Projects
There are a couple of ongoing projects down at the waterfront. One is the rebuilding of the end of Old North Wharf and the other is the dredging projects at the White Elephant and Great Harbor Yacht Club. Both projects are progressing smoothly.
The dredge barge has moved over to in front of GHYC now and has started to dredge-

Hungry Gull
I had a visitor on my scallop boat yesterday morning. A hungry gull. He landed on my bow rail but then moved into the stern with me where I hand fed him nubs. Never a dull moment out there on the water.

White Elephant Dredging Project
The dredging project at the White Elephant/Children's Beach area is well underway. A deep pit was dug up on Children's Beach to accept the spoils. I'm thinking it will eventually be covered up with clean sand. After dredging the White Elephant/Children's Beach area, the dredge will move over to in front of the new Great Harbor Yacht Club at the end of Washington Street to start dredging there.
Here are a few pictures I took this morning of the dredge being used and the location of the dredged material which is being pumped up on Children's Beach-

Hawk & Scenes From Monomoy
The other day, I spotted this hawk down near the cricks eating a duck. It was very small and had yellow legs. It looked like a Red-Tailed Hawk but it was about half the size. Does anyone know what kind of hawk it is?

Aerial Shots of Scalloping
My friend George Riethof took to the air on Monday in his Cessna 172 Skyhawk and grabbed a few shots of me scalloping in the harbor. Thanks, George!
